Cub your enthusiasm.

We've been reading for a week or so that probable National League Manager of the Year Joe Girardi will be let go by the Florida Marlins when the season ends next week. Though he's guided the vastly inexeperienced but talent-laden Fish to a respectable 77-81 record and a near run at a playoff spot, he has clashed with Marlins' owner and ego-maniac Jeffery Loria and is apparently set to be out of a job.

A former Cub and a Peoria, Illinois native, he's inspired rampant speculation that he'll seek a job as Dusty Baker's replacement after ther latter's contract expires at season's end.

On the surface this seems like a natural fit. Girardi always did look good in the blue pajamas. He learned under Joe Torre in the Bronx about how to deal with big time superstars and he proved in Florida that he can quickly develop young talent. But here’s the thing: The Cubs don’t have any big time superstars or young talent. So he’s all wrong for us.

I think Felipe Alou and Frank Robinson will be available though. Maybe Jerry Manuel. Cubs fever: Catch it like the bird flu.
